Description:
Expression of Interest are invited for VRE Integration Study: Supporting the Financial Viability and Sustainable Transition of The Energy Sector in Tunisia. The objective of the assignment is to support the Tunisia team of the World Bank to assess VRE deployment potential in Tunisia by delivering (i) a clear timeline for solar and wind deployment based on optimized scenarios; (ii) a list of investments needed in grid upgrades for VRE integration and uptake; and (iii) optimal locations for future VRE power plants. Description This assignment will support the Tunisia team of the World Bank to assess the impacts of variable renewable energy (VRE) on the grid and identify the relevant measures to mitigate them and optimize the overall electric system. This assignment will identify the optimized VRE capacity for Tunisia, articulating sustainable renewable energy targets with grid investments needed to integrate VRE, and identifying optimal locations for VRE deployment. Deliverables Through an iterative approach involving VRE deployment scenarios, VRE grid integration analysis and high-level locational study (using OPTGEN+SDDP for least-cost generation scenarios, PSS-E for stability studies and analysis, PSS-E/PCOT for flexibility studies and MapRE for locational study): - VRE deployment scenarios (capacity, technology and commissioning date) after modeling the existing generation system in OptGen - Grid upgrades needed to integrate VRE (list and budget for pre-agreed timelines) after conducting a dispatch diagnosis and load-flow analysis - List of sub-stations to prioritize for short term/medium term deployment of VRE and zones to prioritize for a longer-term deployment of VRE (including transmission lines) - List of solar and wind sites identified.
